Welcome to The Navigation Inn

About us

About ‘The Navvy’.

The main canalside section of the building was built in 1798 as a warehouse to service the canal. The
little bar on the right as you come in was originally a cottage and the bar on the left was first licensed
as a pub in 1824. Check out the original lease on the wall in the Restaurant Bar – 5 shillings! The canal
and the building have both been through hard times but are integrally linked and continue to look
forward to a happy future together!

Booking your table

We have a big old building with lots of tables but we have a very small kitchen and one chef! We also
have a small team of staff as, like many other places at the moment, recruiting is difficult. We strongly
recommend booking in advance if you would like to eat with us. We will always give priority to
customers who have booked, and prebooking helps us to judge our staffing levels for a service. We will
try to cater for ‘walk-ins’ but this is not always possible, as it depends on the orders that we have in
progress, the staff we have to serve you and the business we have already done (small kitchen
remember!). An empty table does not necessarily mean that we can serve more food. We also
request that you respect our staff who aim to do their very best under what can often be pressured
conditions.
